Let's all be honest, Scion is wicked awesome! Although I may never buy one of their cars, I still think they definitely have some of the best auto marketing and visuals out there, aimed towards young adults and the youth. They are also very involved (as far as car companies go) in the music and arts, especially up and coming artists within indie rock, hip-hop, and electronica, and graffiti artists and urban happenings like breakdancing! I was at one of those breakdancing competitions in South Boston, that Scion was sponsoring two weeks ago, and I picked another one of their awesome CD Samplers; they are on #21 now. WOW.
I have picked a few in the past and they are always awesome; on the cutting edge of good music. They team up with an-up-and-coming music label or group of artists and help expose people to that label/group. One of the last ones I got was a killer indie hip-hop mix, put together by Peanut Butter Wolf and Stones Throw Records (I believe). This time it is an awesome double disc sampler highlighting the indie-electro scene, compiled by iheartcomix - a very hot record label and "lifestyle brand marketing venture", at the center of this exploding genre/scene. I went to the ihearcomix showcase @ SXSW and let me tell you - it was not only NUTSO and super hyped, the lineup and vibe was also quite impressive! The sampler features a great mix of up-and-coming indie rock, electronic, and pop artists (mostly on iheartcomix records - Heartsrevolution, Protokoll [from Boston], Matt & Kim, and more) remixed by other fresh DJs (like LA Riots and Flosstradamus) and compiled by Franki Chan, the guy who runs iheartcomix.
I love the way Scion markets these samplers, by attaching themselves to /supporting these hot scenes and helping promote these bands, artists, and DJs. Scion also has a great microsite that lists the different samplers and allows you to listen to the tunes and read about the artists and the companies/brands involved. Check out the link below and soak in the goodness! iheartcomix is also doing a short CD release tour for the sampler, which the video below is for, although it's not coming to Boston. But, Franki Chan is coming to Boston on July 3rd @ The Roxy - YEAH! I think I might just have to go!
